Desert Gallery > This was actually my third encounter with this magnificent animal.  I had been carrying my camera with me for 5-6 weeks after the second one, and I was finally rewarded.  He considers the trail leading around to Stolen Horse Canyon to be his territory, even though he may be sunning on some rocks 8 feet off the trail.  When I heard the by now familiar sound of his rattles, this time I was ready.
Desert Gallery > The Blacktail variety of rattlesnake is very aggressive.  Terry Johnson, the resident snake expert on the DesertUSA.com Message Board says, "The only rattlesnake that I have had advance upon my position was a molossus...They certainly insist on a little respect!"  I could not agree more.
